Will a pregnancy test work if i am bleeding???

Me and my boyfriend think I am pregnant as my have gone a lot bigger, I am moody and tired all the time! I felt like this last time I was pregnant. I did a test today but was negative but I am on my period wil it still work??? or sud i wait til next week to do another one?
