How can I remove my dread locks without cutting all of my hair?

I've had my dreads for over 5 years and now want to cut them but I don't want to cut all of my hair. I've heard that there is a product that can be used to "untangle" your locks so that you don't have to cut all of your hair off. Has anyone else heard of such a product and if so what is called?
