Problems with rca opal picture viewer?

I have an rca 8gig opal (w/ no owners manual). I have no problems with the music end of it, but I can't get pictures to load properly. I can get them to show up as a list in the "pictures" file, but when I try to open ANY of them the unit either reverts back to the main "pictures" menu or it just shuts down all together. One other thing. I'm trying this with Jpegs under 30kb's. Anybody got any idears?????
